Hi gang.
Sorry this entry is a little late; I was out of town for the last few days and didn’t have time to post it.
This week’s entry isn’t going to be a proper write-up, but rather a link to a few things I’ve been working on at my day job, where I do writing, editing, deadline, and design work for Chip Theory Games. We just finished a 2.5-week crowdfunding campaign for Too Many Bones: Unbreakable, a standalone expansion to our acclaimed Too Many Bones dice-builder solo/co-op RPG game. I wrote most of the content you can see on the page, as well as most of the update text, which means that I’ve been producing voluminous amounts of writing over the last few weeks — just not here.
Each weekday of the campaign, I wrote a campaign spotlight, where I dove into the details of one element of the campaign. For this week’s essay, I’m going to share links to the three spotlights on elements of the Unbreakable campaign that are primarily my creation. Feel free to check them out to get a taste of the game, and feel free to pledge to the game if you’re interested. Even though the campaign is over, we’re still taking backers. And, if you’ve already backed the project, thank you so much! It’s very appreciated.
Before I share the links, here’s a brief explainer for what Too Many Bones is, pulled from the campaign page and written by yours truly:
Too Many Bones is an acclaimed series of games built around a unique dice-builder RPG mechanic. In each game of Too Many Bones, one to four players put themselves in the shoes of a totally unique, resourceful fantasy adventurer called a Gearloc. Playing solo or cooperatively, the Gearlocs must seek out and defeat one of the tyrants threatening the Gearloc homeland of Daelore.
Each day of their journey through Daelore, the Gearlocs will be faced with a unique encounter that forces them to make strategic decisions to build their characters.
Gearlocs become more powerful throughout their adventure, unlocking the use of a variety of their 16 Skill dice as they move closer and closer to the final battle. … By the end of your adventure, you’ll have a bevy of upgrades and options to help you attempt to defeat your chosen tyrant, ultimately yielding success or failure.
Now, the links.
Gale: Gale is a character featured in the core Unbreakable box that uses wind power to make the most of her cybernetic upgrades. She uses an upgrade mechanic that’s unique to her character, in which three key dice unlock new abilities in her other dice.
Polaris: Polaris is an expansion character who uses magnetic projectiles to wreak havoc on enemies throughout the battlefield. She also has an unlockable skill line that allows her to go cave-diving between battles to get extra items and bonuses for future fights.
The Cog Book: The Cog Book is a lore and art book that will paired with the lore of Unbreakable. I’m currently writing the story, and in this spotlight I explain a little of what folks can hope to see in the final product.
That’s it for me this week! See you next time, and thanks for your patience.
